PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Matt Each was suspended for 12 weeks Friday for what the PGA Tour mentioned was a violation of its conduct policy on drugs of abuse. Each mentioned it was legal prescription for cannabis to treat mental well being.

“To be clear, I tested optimistic for cannabis, a drug I do not abuse and a drug that I have a legal prescription for in the state of Florida,” Each mentioned in a statement.

Each will be eligible to return Jan. 7 and will miss only 3 tournaments for which he would have been eligible — the Bermuda Championship, the Mayakoba Classic in Mexico and the RSM Classic at Sea Island.

Each mentioned he knew cannabis was on the tour’s list of banned substances and accepts the penalties. But he supplied no apologies for the violation.

Each, a two-time winner at Bay Hill, did not disclose the nature of the mental well being situation. He says cannabis, which is legal in Florida only for medicinal purposes, was prescribed by his medical doctor who has managed his well being for 30 years.

He mentioned it was determined that he is neither an acceptable candidate to use prescription “Z” class drugs nor benzodiazepines, drugs he mentioned could be hugely addictive and dangerous to the physique and thoughts.

“For me, cannabis has confirmed to be, by far, the safest and most productive remedy,” Each mentioned. “With that getting mentioned, I have no decision but to accept this suspension and move on. I knew what WADA’s policy was and I violated it. I do not agree with it for numerous factors, mostly for my all round effectively-getting, but I’m excited for what lies ahead in my life and profession.”

The PGA Tour does not comment beyond regular reporting of violations detected via its anti-doping policy, which started in 2008.

Each is the seventh player to be suspended beneath the policy, not which includes Vijay Singh, whose suspension was withdrawn. Singh later sued the tour and it was settled ahead of going to trial.

Just before his back-to-back victories at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Each was arrested on a misdemeanour charge of drug possession immediately after agents have been referred to as to a casino hotel simply because of a powerful odor of marijuana coming from the area he was in. Each mentioned he was in the incorrect spot at the incorrect time, although confirmed the tour suspended him for 3 months.
